Pam's Daily Wave...

Good Afternoon and Welcome to my Atlantic Sunday 😊

Apologies, today’s post is later than usual, and a tad shorter - JB and I decided that, as we had no guests this morning at the inn, we would jump in Jake and go for a drive on the beach.

So, I thought I would share our impromptu mini adventure…(and lots of pics!)

Driving along the beach in the winter is incredible, we went all the way down to the end of the island, where we could see Ocracoke just across the water. After parking up, we walked to the tip of the island, where the sound meets the sea, I always find this to be a magical part of our beautiful island.

It was such a stunning morning, the sun was shining so brightly, the ocean was whipped up by the wind and there were so many birds soaring across the waves, it took my breath away.

Sadly, the end of the island is eroding quickly, and many of the trees that are down there, are being washed away…. often ending up in the Sound (you can see so many of them when you take the Ocracoke ferry).

The sand that the trees have been rooted in for so many years, is being washed away, weakening the tree roots, and eventually the tree will uproot and tip over, revealing a naked root-ball, before finally succumbing to the ocean.

This can make for a rather hauntingly beautiful scene. Being here especially on my own, is so peaceful, and thought provoking - I could spend all day here writing …

Although today I was with JB, who fortunately, has the patience of a saint - as he had to put up with me completely losing track of time, as I marveled and photographed everything around me.

Next it was off to Ramp 49 for another foray along the beach…. this time so I could get some pics of the birds on the deserted beach. There appeared to be hundreds of birds, either in the water, soaring above the water...or just chilling out on the beach 😊

Then back up another ramp to drive along one of the 4x4 beach back roads (I love my Jake Jeep🥰), before we eventually came to some water that even Jake wasn’t up to.

So, it was a quick U-turn and retracing of our tracks, before coming out close to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse!

Our impromptu mini adventure concluded, we drove back along NC12 to the inn, for a toasty hot chocolate......before starting to decorate our beloved inn for Christmas🎄 😊

I hope that you will manage to take some time out today....whether it's for an impromptu mini adventure....or just to relax and enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon....You deserve it 💗

Until next time,

Take care, Stay Safe....and please take some time at some point today to just Relax 💕💕

Hugs,

Pam
