Pam's Daily Wave...

Take the time to Look a Little Closer…

Our everyday lives can be so busy and hectic, it’s super easy to miss things “hidden in plain sight”. These things are easily visible, but go unnoticed, often because the object or action isn’t expected to be there.

It’s just so easy to miss...

Some people naturally look for those hidden things…. they seem to jump out at them (metaphorically speaking…hopefully!). For example, my husband JB always notices the things in movies, and on tv, that are not the focus of the camera. Whilst I may be automatically watching whatever the camera view wants me to focus my attention on, JB will notice the people and objects that are in the background. The artwork on the walls, the message on the t-shirt the actor is wearing, the missing hands of a clock etc.

Often these elements are clearly presented, but we are too engrossed in the main focus of the screen, that we completely miss them.

One of my particular favorites to notice, are the architectural details on buildings that unfortunately many people completely miss – They may walk through the same door every single day and don’t notice the beautiful carved inscription above the door, because they simply weren’t looking.

This happens all too often, we become “blinkered” in what we see…. even if it is right there in front of you, you’re just not looking closely enough. We have to open our eyes, take the blinkers off, and pay more attention.

Although seeing these hidden things may be a natural talent for some, you can also train yourself to “Look a Little Closer.” Make a concerted effort to open your eyes and ears to your surroundings and the things going on around you, you’ll be surprised at what you suddenly see and hear.

After a while of making a conscious effort to look closer, it will become more natural to you, it will become habit– Your world will open up and you will see things much more clearly.

For me, I love to find the “hidden” ….and for many years have “hidden” objects in plain sight. When we had the farm, there were many different things placed on the trails and through the woods – Faces on trees, gnomes, plaques with quotes, fairy doors….it was so much fun, and it was awesome when people noticed them.

Just look a little closer...

Now I have the inn and its grounds, which are the ideal place to continue my tradition of hiding things in plain sight….and I’ve only just begun…😉

To take the topic in a slightly different direction for a moment - Whilst there are many, many beautiful things hidden in plain sight – there are also many nastier things that are also hidden in plain sight…Cruelty, Workplace Bullying, Domestic Abuse, Mental Health challenges to name just a few. Signs that are clearly evident that there is something wrong, but often we are blinkered in these situations too, so wrapped up in what’s directly in front of us, that we don’t notice what may be going on…” hidden in plain sight”!

How many things are we missing every day that are hidden in plain sight???

What a difference we might make if we just paid a little more attention to our world 😊

Until next time...

Take care, Stay safe and Look a Little Closer

Hugs,

Pam
