Pam's Daily Wave...

Hello and welcome to an incredible Weekend from my Atlantic Life in Hatteras šŸ˜Š

I often like to think of my life as a huge book that I'm creating.... Like every book, there is a beginning: -

Once Upon A Time...there was a little girl born next to the Atlantic Ocean, in a far-off land called Scotland. What she didn't know at that time was, that her story had only just begunā€¦ and although initially she wasn't aware of it, in later years she would come to understand, that she was the ā€œauthorā€ of her own storyšŸ§¾.

Yes...this pic is of me on the first Atlantic beach I spent my first 30yrs on - Ayr in ScotlandšŸ˜Š

Now this concept was not clearly evident in her earlier years when she thought, or rather assumed, that her story had already been written, and she just had no option but to go along with itā€¦. that she had no control over what would happen to her, or what would become of her? And, as she grew up, sometimes it was just easier to believe thatā€¦. that you're a passenger on this journey and can't affect your storyline. By relinquishing the thought that you have the ability to change the narrative of your own life, you could also relinquish any responsibility or accountability for what happened in your life!

What a concept - "it's never my fault", "it just happened to me", "I had no control over it", "Iā€™m the victim here"ā€¦

Hmmmmā€¦. well that's simpleā€¦.and we all live happily ever afterā€¦. or not!

There are certain elements of our story that we cannot change, for example - who we are born to, where we are born, what environment weā€™re born into etc. - These parts of our narrative are fixed, and most definitely out-with our control, butā€¦.and itā€™s a huge BUT - there are a multitude of things we can do to change our storyline.

As a child I began to test the waters - What if I did thisā€¦. What would that affect? What if I didnā€™t do somethingā€¦. How would that turn out? But more often than naught - I had no idea that I had so much control or input into my own storyline, that I would have choices to make, decisions to take, new storylines to create. What a crazy thoughtā€¦. that we actually have a say in how we live our lives!!!!

So, our book is full of chapters - periods in our lives when something happens that affects our story, some are awesomeā€¦. some not so - the important thing to remember is, that although there may be factors beyond your control that may drive a particular chapter (trust me, I always struggle with this one as I have issues relinquishing controlā€¦. but I am trying!), you can choose to input your thoughts, ideas, and strategies into a current chapter whenever you want. It won't necessarily change any of the elements you have no control over, but you can change how you react to themā€¦. how you deal with them, and therefore have your say in the outcome of that particular chapter.

Andā€¦. you can start a new chapter whenever you want to, remember this is Your story.

So, my life is a great adventure book, and each chapter is a new adventure in my lifeā€¦. there are exciting ones, boring ones (although not many of these, I have to say šŸ˜‰), happy ones and sad onesā€¦each chapter its own mini story within the book. Sometimes, it is good to reread some of my more challenging chapters, as these generally had some hard lessons learned, that I need to remember to keep in mind, when planning my future chapters. Itā€™s also fun to revisit wonderful events that have happened in past chapters, times when I was super happy, which can be particularly useful if Iā€™m feeling a little downā€¦ā€¦But, you do need to be careful not to dwell in your past chapters, you cannot change, or relive those chapters, no matter how hard you may try - they are in the past, have already been written, completed, and published, so to speak.

One of the absolutely amazing things about life is, that along with being the author of your current narrative, you also have the incredible ability to dream and plan future chapters. You already know of some of the elements that you have no control over and can plan accordingly, and of course there will always be new factors that are thrown into the mix of our livesā€¦the unplanned events, the ā€œdidnā€™t see that one comingā€ etc. ā€“ you just have to learn to be agile in your planningā€¦.ensure you have the ability to flex, to change direction, explore new pathways, course correct, seek help when needed, take guidanceā€¦be open to new scenarios for your next chapter ā€“ Unlike your past chapters that you are unable to amend, you can adapt new chaptersā€¦..create different narratives, ones that you are most definitely the ā€œauthorā€ of!

I love this quote from the Wizard of Oz

"You've always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself"

-Glinda, the good witch-

Until next time,

Take care, Stay safe and please remember, you are the ā€œauthorā€ of your storyā€¦.are you ā€œhappily ever afterā€? or is it time to write a new chapter?

Love and Hugs,

Pam
