Good Morning and Welcome to the Weekend....and only 7 more sleeps 'til Christmas 🎄
This morning, I wanted to turn my blog over to a poem written by Erin Hanson - an Australian poet born in Brisbane in 1995
"Not" by Erin Hanson
You are not your age,
Nor the size of clothes you wear,
You are not a weight,
Or the color of your hair.
You are not your name,
Or the dimples in your cheeks,
You are all the books you read,
And all the words you speak,
You are your croaky morning voice,
And the smiles you try to hide,
You’re the sweetness in your laughter,
And every tear you’ve cried,
You’re the songs you sing so loudly,
When you know you’re all alone,
You’re the places that you’ve been to,
And the one that you call home,
You’re the things that you believe in,
And the people that you love,
You’re the photos in your bedroom,
And the future you dream of,
You’re made of so much beauty,
But it seems that you forgot,
When you decided that you were defined,
By all the things you’re not
To me the beauty in this poem is in its simplicity, it just states some facts...
Definition of “to define”: "To state the meaning"
How many of us are defined by things we are not? I most certainly have spent my fair share of (wasted) time being defined by “things I am not” ….and it got me to thinking, what things am I defined by? What things would I like or want to be defined by?
Now, there are some who say that you are defined by –
your actions
your words
your mistakes
your successes
your friends
your enemies….and so on
Me, I think we can be defined by whatever we choose 😊
I think it would be a great exercise to sit in silence, and read this poem, concentrating on each line, and thinking about how it relates to us – which are the “things” in the poem that reflect our own “defining things”?
….and then - Think of all the wonderful, precious and beautifully imperfect “things”, that really and truly define You 💗
Until next time…
Take care, Stay Safe……and Live a Life You Love 🥰
Love and Hugs,
Pam
