Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday....and 18 more sleep "til Christmas 😊
With the final lights up on the outside of the inn, it's time to focus on decorating the inside......I love the way our century-old inn looks with twinkling lights, it's quite magical. And, last night was so beautiful with the new moon and the planet Venus glowing above the old building, it was rather breathtaking. It didn't capture well on the photo I took, but thought I would let you see it nonetheless.
So, this morning was a rather windy, and cold morning on the beach…. not that this bothered me in the least – in fact I love these types of mornings. I had a snuggly soft sweatshirt and thermal leggings on (yes, this was definitely not a “shorts” morning), my big puffy jacket and, of course my blanket and trusty Uggs, so I was super cozy. I even treated myself to a mug of steaming hot chocolate as opposed to my regular coffee…which was super yummy, warming me from the inside out ☕. Spending my first 30yrs in my hometown on the west coast of Scotland where winters could be lengthy, I learned to make the most of those months, to embrace and enjoy winter and its often chilly weather.
Absolutely no one seems to appear on mornings like these, when there is no spectacular sunrise to see. Sitting on the beach, I’m completely on my own, and quickly become mesmerized by the white capped waves crashing dramatically on the shore, as I receive an impromptu facial exfoliation treatment by the whipped-up sand…
Whilst some may call this scene bleak…. I call it beautiful and can’t help but smile.
Keeping memories and scenes that make you smile, stored in your head so you can recall them at a later date, is a great idea. Everyone “banks” these events that make us smile, it’s something our brains do automatically. Unfortunately, many of us don’t think to access these little pearls of positivity when we could really use them. Often though, we find it easier to recall negative events - things that make us feel sad, unsettled, victimized or hopeless….and yes these are the best guests to our “pity party”.
I’m not for a moment suggesting that life is perpetually wonderful…. We are all well aware that life isn’t always easy, at times it can be exceptionally tough - we all face our own struggles and challenges, both big and small....as they say "that's life". But I have found that, when I can recall something that makes me smile (even if it is only on the inside), the warmth of a memory, the beauty of a scene….it makes my problems more bearable, as I know that one day I will have many other things to smile at. It sometimes can be enough to give me the strength to deal with my challenge.
With this in mind, I have a small project for you to do…..it starts with you taking 20mins out of your day, and making a list of absolutely anything you can think of, that makes you smile. These can be memories, actions, hobbies, people you know or have met, animals, places, scenes, photographs, smells, sounds…anything at all that makes you smile when you think about them.
Write them all down in bullet-point form/list, you don’t need to go into detail, these words are going to act as a prompt……
And tomorrow, I’ll tell you what you can do with your list.....a small winter project that won't take much time, but I think you'll find useful. The added bonus is you have 20 mins (or longer if you want) of "smile time"...don't you think you deserve this 🥰
Now I'm off to get the sand out of my hair!!!
Until next time...
Take care, Stay Safe....and just think about all those things that make you smile 😊
Love and Hug,
Pam

Hello Leigh - Our world really is smaller than it seems sometimes 😊 We miss you and David too and are looking forward to seeing you guys once the winter weather abates. Hope you have an absolutely wonderful Christmas and New Year. Love and Hugs!!!
The inn looks beautiful! 😊🎄
Both you and John have been very busy, and it shows! I’m sure your Hatteras neighbors are very impressed! We commented on the moon/planet combo from our front yard. Things like that make the world seem small. Miss you both, and hope to visit the inn during the holidays one day. Hugs! 😘
