Pam's Daily Wave...

Good Morning and Welcome to my Atlantic Life in Hatteras ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well, I think the crazy sustained winds that have been blasting our precious coastline over the last 4 days are finally subsiding and the sun is peaking through. Along with a lot of relieved home and business owners and visitors to the island, I know of one little guy who will be super-relieved....

Okay, he's not that little - he's my surf pup Bodie ๐ŸŒŠ

Bodie the Surf Pup

Whilst Bailey sensibly heads for the shore....Bodie heads for the waves....๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ

When we moved Bodie along with Bailey and Pumpkin, from the 40-acre horse farm - the only home they had known, we were really unsure as to how they would adjust. Mr. Bailey whom we refer to as "the adult in the room" took our relocation to the island over 2 years ago, in his stride, enjoying swimming in the Pamlico Sound which is normally calm, and similar to swimming in the lake that we had on our previous property. Bodie on the other hand fell instantly in love with the ocean.....and is never happier than when he is charging into huge waves!! He would spend all day in his salty nirvana if given half the chance.

As an aside, Bodie was not named after the lighthouse.....we lived in Hillsborough, NC when we got him as a pup - he is named after the character "Bodie" played in the original "Point Break" movie by Patrick Swayze....and although a bit of a "bad boy" character, "Bodie" absolutely loved the ocean and adventure - and is one of my all-time fave movies ๐Ÿ’—

My Bodie....๐Ÿ’•

But my 100lb, feisty, boisterous and rambunctious alpha dog has a secret - he is super scared of high winds and thunder, and during storms can be found sucking on his security blanket....even sleeping under my bed at night or trying to pretend he is a "lap dog" and should spend the night on top of the bed, which in turn signals to Mr. Bailey that he too is a "lap dog" and should join us on the bed.....200lbs of dogs on our bed does not make for a restful night's sleep!!!! So, it's back under the bed Bodie goes.

Don't worry, Bodie get loads of extra love and hugs when he's anxious....

Our expected guests over the past few days all had to cancel as they couldn't get to the inn, with the closure of NC 12 up past Rodanthe and the ferries all cancelled, travel was impossible. So with an empty inn, Bodie decided that the best thing to do during a storm was to sneak out of our apartment, (which is on the upper floors and has 3 external walls, and lots of windows, so in high winds, it's pretty evident it's stormy) and head down to the first floor main lounge to watch some TV to keep his mind off the raging storm.....

Bailey, on the other hand was as always, "Captain Sensible" decided the best thing to do when you're in the midst of the storm is to snuggle up on a comfy sofa with your buddy Pumpkin and to take a nap ๐Ÿ˜ด

Bodie watching some TV, convincing himself..."there is no storm....there is no storm"

Bailey and Pumpkin chilling...."who cares if there's a storm...we're comfy and cozy"

With our weather beginning to normalize again.....and next week looking like it will be back to balmy southerly winds, bright and sunny blue skies, and temperatures back in the 70's, I thought I'd not only post a few pics from the last few days.....but also a reminder of what my ocean looks like here on Hatteras Island for most of the year.

This week's storm...

The same beach, above and below....

The joys of living on a sandbar 30 miles out in the Atlantic Ocean ๐Ÿ’—

Until Next Time...

Take care, Stay Safe and....Maybe take a few minutes to think - just because someone appears brave and fearless - like Bodie, it doesn't mean they don't have their own insecurities and fears....be kind ๐Ÿ’•

Love and Hugs,

Pam

PS. Continuing to keep the people of the Ukraine in my thoughts and prayers ๐Ÿ™

I'm glad the weather has calmed down. I did think Bodie was named after the lighthouse, but appreciate your story. To me, Patrick Swayze is what fantasies are made of. After he passed, I was in LA for a trade show and have a picture of me laying across his star.

I left for home Sunday after two glorious weeks in Hatteras! First time ever I didn't drag my feet getting off the island on departure day. Looks like I got off just in time! My Maggie has a healthy fear of the ocean too, which is okay with me! She's satisfied with long walks on the beach and exploring the sound ๐Ÿ™‚
