Pam's Daily Wave...

Good Morning and Welcome to Tuesday from my Atlantic Life in Hatteras 😊

So, last night I was sitting on my comfy chaise in our apartment in the inn, looking out of the sliding glass doors over the overgrown maritime shrubs and trees. As often happens, when I'm chilling out with a view of nature, thoughts roll into my head, like waves on a beach, and sometimes I catch one of those waves and surf on the thought for a little while.

On thinking about my beautiful view from our living room, I suddenly remembered that from early in my childhood I had always wanted to have the living area of my home upstairs, so I would always have wonderful views - it seemed silly to me that the area that you spent most of your time during daylight hours, was normally the space that was on the ground floor with a lesser view of your surroundings.

I remember as a teenager spending one summer with my friend at a relative's house on the southern coast of Spain......It was an awesome vacation, spending lots of time on the beach and exploring the quaint fishing villages nearby - but one over-riding memory was of the home in which I stayed. The design of the house was such, that it reversed the conventional layout that I was familiar with.

In Spain, it was common to have your bedrooms on the ground/first floor (where it would remain cooler during the hot Spanish summers) and the living spaces which were open plan (kitchen, dining and living areas), were on the upper floors of the house, with access to roof top decks so you could enjoy the sun and spectacular views......I instantly fell in love.....that home in Spain was exactly the design I had been dreaming about 💗

Over the years (which is rather a lot since I was a teenager 😉) that reverse plan remained in my head, but the opportunity to live in such a home never arose......that is until now - our teeny tiny apartment is on the upper floors of our century old inn......I had inadvertently reached my goal of having my living area on an upper floor.....my dream from so long ago, had come true!

Now, you may be wondering, what is going on in that "crazy little lady brain" of mine, that I would want to share this story with you?

It wasn't that I lived on an upper floor....or had a wonderful view of nature...that I had a comfy chaise in my sitting area, or that I had travelled to Spain as a teenager - The thing that was forefront in my mind as I surfed my thought/memory wave, was that I had fallen in love with an idea, and indeed dreamt about living in this type of space, and it had become a goal....which I have finally achieved. So many thing in my life have started as musings and dreams, and have become reality - One of the biggest ones was, as a child I wanted to travel and live in the US. As a child living in a small beach town in Scotland, I was never sure how I was going to make that particular dream come true, when so many of the people who lived in my town, remained there, having families of their own, and staying in the same town, happy and content.

If you believe in something, are passionate, and willing to move out of your comfort zone....your dreams can become a reality. I remained in Scotland (apart from vacation travels) until I was 30years old - then travelled extensively around the world (mainly on business), but was super fortunate to visit some incredible places, before Duke University moved me and my family to North Carolina 11 years ago..... and, in 2020 moved to my dream beach hometown of Hatteras Village. Another example of dreams becoming a reality 💗 (If you'd like to read a little more about "Dreaming", you may enjoy one of my earlier blogs: https://www.myatlanticlife.com/post/time-out-to-learn-to-dream-again )

When I start thinking back....there are so many things in my life that started as mere dreams or child-like ideas, that have come to fruition, becoming part of the adventure book that is my life......"My Atlantic Life"🌊.

For now, I'm going to keep on dreaming......you never know what adventures I may have in the future, as I make my dreams come true...🥰

Until Next Time...

Take care, Stay Safe and....why not think about some dream ideas you had in the past....have any become reality? Maybe it's time to shake the dust off some of those dreams...

Love and Hugs,

Pam
